Finish Pine Outdoor Furniture
Pine furniture can be painted but the most common finish is stain and varnish. Now we come to question what does finishing mean. Finishing refers to the process of protecting the surface of a wooden material. It includes surface preparation that can be done by sanding by hand or scraping.
The
following steps describe how to finish pine outdoor furniture:-
Surface of
furniture must be inspected properly. Tighten any loose tacks or fasteners. Check for any loose
joints and apply wood glue to fix it up and leave it for drying.
150-grit
sandpaper is used for sanding purpose. Sand in the direction of the wood grain otherwise
it will scratch. After sanding, clean the surface with a slightly damp cloth.
Now use this
fine-grit paper over the whole furniture surface again. It provides a smooth,
silky finish to the wood.
To protect
your hands from the stain you must use gloves. You can use a brush to apply
stain of your choice. Never use excessive stain as it would start dropping or
running. Many home woodworkers simply use a clean rag and wipe on the stain by
hand rather than using a brush.
A top coat
of clear finish is added over the stain. It protects the wood from pests and
moisture.
Some
considerations regarding finishing pine outdoor furniture:
Proper ventilation
One should
not use paints of stains without proper ventilation.
Safety glasses
One should
wear safety glasses while working wood.
Gloves
One should
use gloves to protect the hands from stain.
